What is VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (a.k.a. VoIP) is a great new way to dial and receive telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a legacy cooper telephone line.

It is an emerging technology encompassing a set of facilities and protocols used to manage the delivery of voice information over a data-network like the Internet. VoIP allows you to make telephone calls while avoiding the tolls charged by ordinary telephone service.

The acronym, VoIP, is used to refer to the technology and equipment needed to transfer voice over a data network. It is commonly used to refer to Voice over IP telephone service.

Advantia provides you with VoIP equipment, service and backs it with international telecommunication experience.

Why VoIP?

VoIP Service from Advantia VoIP Systems offers all the calling features you want for less than traditional phone companies. Because of the bandwidth efficiency and low costs that VoIP technology can provide, businesses are rapidly migrating from traditional copper-wire telephone systems to VoIP enabled telephone systems to reduce their monthly telephone expenses.

VoIP solutions aimed at businesses have evolved into "unified communications" services that treat all communications (phone calls, faxes, voice mail, e-mail, etc.) as discrete units that can all be delivered via any means and to any handset, including cellular telephones.

VoIP also offers the advantage of running both data and voice communications over a single network which can represent a significant saving in new infrastructure costs.

The Economics of VoIP

VoIP has become popular largely because of the cost advantages over traditional telepone networks. In Canada, customers typically pay a flat monthly fee for local telephone calls and a per-minute charge for long-distance calls. Like traditional telephone service, most Internet connections are charged using a flat monthly fee structure. Using your Internet connection for both data and voice service can allow you to reduce a monthly payment.

Other advantages that appeal to business is that the per extension prices of VoIP are lower than those of PBXs or key systems. Also, VoIP switches rely on commodity hardware running the Linux operating system so they are highly stable and configurable. Rather than the closed architectures of legacy telephone systems, VoIP devices rely on standard interfaces.
